SHAH ALAM – Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has called on the government to prioritise progressive taxation on the ultra-wealthy instead of expanding consumption taxes like the Sales and Services Tax (SST), which will take effect on July 1. He criticised the move as a reversal of Pakatan Harapan’s promises, warning it will burden middle and lower-income groups already struggling with rising living costs. Speaking after a programme at Karangkraf headquarters, he urged transparency in tax spending, emphasising that additional revenue should directly benefit the public through better schools, facilities, and public transport, or risk losing public trust.
