Former environment minister Yeo Bee Yin asserted that Petronas must bear full responsibility for the fire in Putra Heights, despite the Department of Occupational Safety and Health’s (JKKP) findings that unstable soil caused the incident.

While she agreed there was no sabotage or criminal intent, Yeo—who has oil and gas engineering experience—disagreed that negligence was absent. She stressed that as the pipeline owner, Petronas is responsible for maintaining its infrastructure properly.
Yeo argued that underground conditions should not justify a massive structural failure, and that Petronas must be held accountable for the damages caused by the fire.
