Sabah’s ruling coalition partners, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Sabah PKR, are now at odds over fresh corruption allegations linked to the state’s mining scandal. GRS deputy secretary-general Armizan Ali criticised Sabah PKR for “jumping the gun” after its chairperson Mustapha Sakmud expressed shock at reports implicating six politicians, including Star and PBS leaders. Armizan said PKR’s comments disrespect due process, stressing that GRS refrains from speculation. Meanwhile, Mustapha warned of political repercussions and urged party branches to stay alert. Those implicated, including Star president Jeffrey Kitingan and PBS acting president Joachim Gunsalam, have strongly denied any wrongdoing.
