The High Court has declared fashion designer Jovian Mandagie bankrupt after he failed to repay a RM5.28 million “friendly loan” from engineering firm Cekap Air Sdn Bhd. The ruling was made by senior assistant registrar Faisal Zulkifli following the company’s creditor petition filed in November last year. Jovian, former son-in-law of ex-prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob, was found to have committed an act of bankruptcy by not complying with a May 2024 bankruptcy notice. The loan, given in February 2022, was confirmed by his legal firm. His applications to stay and set aside the petition were dismissed. His appeal is set for September 15.
