PAS information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari has criticised Putrajaya over the expanded sales and service tax (SST), warning it could raise consumer prices. He mocked Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s overseas trip to Italy as the tax took effect, calling Madani the “Saya Suka Travel” government. “Pakatan Harapan supporters easily ask us to boycott retailers that hike prices. It’s not as simple as that. The government should study why retailers have no choice but to raise prices,” he said. The SST expansion, effective July 1, taxes non-essential goods by 5–10%, with Mydin announcing possible gradual price increases from August onwards.
