Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced a 10% tariff on imports from BRICS nations, citing their economic challenge to U.S. dominance. Brazil’s President Lula da Silva condemned the move following the recent BRICS summit.
BRICS Accused of Undermining U.S. Dollar by Trump
Trump also declared a 25% tariff on Malaysian imports starting August 1, targeting other countries like Japan, South Korea, and Tunisia with similar or higher rates. Trump accused BRICS of trying to undermine the U.S. dollar.
He warned countries acting “anti-America” would face consequences, emphasizing protection of domestic industries. The BRICS bloc, formed to counter Western financial dominance, recently expanded to include nations like Iran and Indonesia.
