KUALA LUMPUR: Former minister Rafizi Ramli has called for a Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) to examine delays in naming successors for Malaysia’s vacant Chief Justice and Court of Appeal President posts. While acknowledging constitutional provisions and the Attorney General’s clarification on administrative processes, Rafizi said public perception (see screenshot below) remains a concern. Such delays risk speculation that the executive may seek judges aligned with its views, even if no procedural breach occurs. He stressed that the prime minister’s duty is to uphold judicial independence and credibility, and that actions inviting undue speculation should be avoided.
