As calls grow louder for a Royal Commission of Inquiry into judicial matters, Istana Negara has issued a rare statement, urging all parties not to politicise the appointment of top judges. The palace stressed that such appointments are vital matters of state, requiring integrity and adherence to the Federal Constitution. It cited Article 122B, which states that judicial appointments are made by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the advice of the prime minister, after consulting the Conference of Rulers. While the Judicial Appointments Commission recommends candidates, the final advisory power remains with the prime minister, underscoring crucial checks and balances.
