Calls for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s resignation intensified as the Defend the Judiciary Secretariat, led by Dr Mahathir Mohamad, urged him to step down immediately over alleged conflicts of interest in judiciary appointments. Lawyer Rafique Rashid Ali said the group rescinded its earlier call for Anwar to take leave, insisting his resignation is necessary as he is a party in several civil lawsuits. Hindu Rights Action Force president P Waythamoorthy added that courts should decide if Anwar can advise the Agong on judicial appointments. Opposition leader Hamzah Zainudin and Perikatan Nasional also called for Anwar to resign over integrity and economic concerns.
