KUALA LUMPUR – DAP national adviser Lim Guan Eng has urged the government to pause its sales and service tax (SST) expansion and electricity tariff hike in response to the US imposing 25 percent retaliatory tariffs on Malaysian exports effective Aug 1. The former finance minister said halting these hikes would ease burdens on businesses and households already grappling with rising costs. He welcomed Bank Negara Malaysia’s recent 25 basis point OPR cut to support growth amid global uncertainties. Lim argued the government should freeze utility charge increases until the “tariff war” is resolved to maintain Malaysia’s economic resilience.
