KUALA LUMPUR – Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng has criticised Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s (TNB) recent electricity tariff hike, warning it could spark public discontent and erode trust in the government. He said the increase, effective July 1, is ill-timed amid rising living costs and disproportionately burdens middle-class households and small businesses, who receive limited subsidies yet struggle to absorb extra costs. Lip Eng urged the government to re-evaluate the implementation and create support mechanisms for affected groups. He also highlighted public confusion over sudden inflated bills and TNB’s technical issues, stressing that policies must reflect people’s daily struggles transparently.
