Nineteen PKR divisions in Johor have called for the suspension of nine MPs, including former Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, over their push for a royal commission of inquiry into judicial appointments. If PKR suspends these MPs, its parliamentary representation would drop from 31 to 22 seats, leaving it with fewer MPs than UMNO, says Murray Hunter, an anti-Anwar Ibrahim blogger. He says this would technically make PKR a minority within the government bloc, with Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s position reliant on UMNO President Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s support. But suspending them from the party does not mean kicking them out of the party unless they are thrown out of PKR. A few analysts are warning the move to suspend them risks destabilising the party, recalling the damaging split in 2020 when Azmin Ali led 10 MPs out of PKR.
