Malaysia’s population is projected to peak at 42.38 million in 2059 before a gradual decline begins in 2060, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM). Chief Statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said growth rates would slow significantly from 1.7% in 2020 to just 0.1% in 2060. Selangor is expected to remain the most populous state with 8.10 million people in 2060, followed by Johor and Sabah. Bumiputera share is forecast to rise to 79.4% by 2060, while Chinese and Indian shares will decline. The male population will continue to outnumber females, with the sex ratio reaching 114:100.
