Indonesia’s population reached 286.6 million as of June, reflecting an increase of around 1.7 million people since December 2024, according to the Home Affairs Ministry. Teguh Setyabudi, the ministry’s director-general of population and civil registration, said on Friday that population growth remains crucial for national development planning. He highlighted that the male population now exceeds the female population by approximately 2.6 million. This demographic trend, coupled with overall growth, has prompted the government to strengthen its population database to support development strategies more effectively and ensure resources and policies are aligned with evolving demographic needs.
