KUALA LUMPUR – Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli has warned that a judge accused of judicial interference could soon rise to become Malaysia’s chief justice. During a forum on July 13, Rafizi predicted acting Chief Justice Hasnah Hashim and acting Court of Appeal President Zabariah Yusof will soon be officially appointed, but both are set to retire by November, opening the path for the implicated judge to ascend. He cautioned this would demoralise judges of integrity. Rafizi also noted no MPs supported his group’s call for a royal commission of inquiry, but said their push has succeeded in drawing public attention.
