Drugs Still Main Threat to Malaysia’s Borders, Says Home Minister

Drug-related offences are the most prevalent crimes impacting Malaysia’s border security, according to Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. Analysis of 1.2 million crime records under the National Border Security Index (IKSN) found Sections 15(1), 12(2), and 39C of the Dangerous Drugs Act dominated.

Individuals arrested for drug use were statistically linked to 31 other crimes, while small-scale drug possession was associated with 11 other offences. Saifuddin stressed that tackling drug abuse is key to reducing broader crime. The IKSN, developed with 31 agencies and UiTM, monitors 12 categories of threats to provide a comprehensive national border risk profile.
