Malaysia is still in talks with the United States to lower tariffs before the August 1 deadline, according to Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz. While Indonesia has reportedly secured a reduced 19% tariff, Malaysia currently faces a 25% rate, up from the original 24% announced in April.

Tengku Zafrul emphasised that Malaysia seeks a balanced, win-win outcome and will not compromise on national sovereignty or strategic sectors. The US had initially imposed tariffs on 14 countries, with rates ranging from 19% to 40%, as part of President Donald Trump’s global trade policy overhaul.
