SST on Imported Fruits Spurs Demand for Malaysian Produce

The Sales and Service Tax (SST) on imported fruits is expected to increase demand for local produce, according to FAMA Director-General Abdul Rashid Bahri. Though it’s too early to measure the full impact, early indicators show growing support for Malaysian agricultural products.

FAMA is actively promoting local fruits and vegetables through schools, Agro Madani programmes, and major events like FAMA Fest on July 22. Bananas and pineapples are now preferred at government functions, replacing imported fruits. Additionally, FAMA’s coffee brand, Kopiesatu, continues to expand with 23 outlets nationwide, enhancing Malaysia’s local coffee scene and showcasing premium homegrown offerings.
