The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is finalising improvements to the Kejara Demerit Points System to remove serial traffic offenders and dangerous drivers from Malaysian roads. JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the overhaul, announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke, is undergoing final review before being presented to the ministry. The revisions require legal amendments and may take time. Previously, Kejara was criticised as ineffective since demerit points were only deducted after summons payment or court charges. The updated system targets 20 serious offences. JPJ also clarified that PSV and GDL licence suspensions follow assessments, not immediate action, with five drivers currently suspended temporarily.
