Haze from forest and land fires in Riau, Indonesia, has crossed into Malaysia, according to BMKG Pekanbaru. Forecaster Bibin S said the smoke is moving northeast towards Teluk Kemang, though specific affected Malaysian areas were not detailed. On Saturday, BMKG detected 259 fire hotspots in Riau, mainly in Rokan Hulu (107) and Rokan Hilir (95). Dominant southeast-south winds are pushing the haze beyond Riau’s borders, with northern Riau and nearby waters experiencing severe impacts.
