Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has called on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to resign immediately, claiming he lacks the ability to govern and has caused numerous problems for Malaysians. Speaking at the Himpunan Mandat Negarawan rally in Alor Setar attended by over 30,000 people, Mahathir cited global examples where leaders stepped down when public confidence waned. He criticised Anwar for failing to manage the country’s wealth properly, leading to subsidy cuts that burden citizens. Mahathir said mass protests show clear public rejection and insisted a Prime Minister must remain sensitive to the people’s struggles.

Anwar responded to criticism and calls for his resignation by saying that if the opposition wants him to step down, they should table a motion in Parliament declaring he has lost support. He added that building a nation takes time, while destroying it is easy, and praised Malaysians for not giving in to divisive incitement.
