The Court of Appeal has granted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim a stay of proceedings in the civil sexual assault suit filed against him by former research officer Muhammed Yusoff Rawther in 2021. The court cited special circumstances, noting the stay was necessary while Anwar awaits a Federal Court decision on eight constitutional questions. Anwar’s lawyer argued that continuing the trial would distract the prime minister from his official duties. Yusoff’s lawyer disagreed, saying Anwar could still perform his role. The three-member panel fixed September 2 for the next case management as the legal process continues.
