MOH Develops AI Tool to Predict Dengue Hotspots

The Health Ministry is developing an artificial intelligence (AI) system to predict dengue hotspots and enhance early detection efforts. Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad revealed in Parliament that the AI tool will identify high-risk areas before cases surge, enabling faster intervention.

Dengue-related deaths this year have reached 21—higher than COVID-19 fatalities—though the overall situation has improved from 2023. Selangor remains the worst-hit state, followed by Kuala Lumpur. The ongoing Wolbachia mosquito programme has shown up to 100% success in reducing Aedes populations. Research on a dengue vaccine is also underway at Universiti Malaya under the ministry’s guidance.
