PAS MP Shahidan Kassim predicts the July 26 rally in Kuala Lumpur demanding Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s resignation will attract 300,000 to 500,000 people, far exceeding the police estimate of 10,000-15,000 attendees. He described it as the “mother of all rallies”, saying not even Anwar’s upcoming “extraordinary tribute” announcement will dampen the protest. Shahidan’s forecast suggests the police may need to revise their current plan to deploy only 2,000 officers for security. The rally, organised to pressure Anwar to step down, is expected to see massive participation, filling stadiums and overflowing into city streets this Saturday.
