Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a targeted subsidy plan for RON95 petrol, fixing the price at RM1.99 per litre for Malaysians by end-September.
RON95 Petrol to Be Capped at RM1.99 for Malaysians Under Targeted Subsidy
The move is designed to benefit around 18 million local drivers and riders—including youth and gig workers—while preventing misuse by foreigners, who will pay market rates. Anwar emphasized that the rakyat would not be burdened, as the new system ensures only eligible groups receive aid.
With current RON95 subsidies costing nearly RM20 billion annually, this initiative aims to reduce wastage and enhance fairness by ensuring assistance goes to those who truly need it.
