PETALING JAYA – Lawyer Samantha Chong has criticised police for prioritising phone searches over real crimes after her clients were fined for possessing pornography. Three men, including two university students, were fined RM3,000 to RM4,000 each by the Kota Bharu Magistrates’ Court on Sunday for explicit content found on their phones. They were arrested on June 18 at a health outreach event later labelled a “gay party” by police. Chong said no drugs or sexual acts were involved and called the arrests traumatising. She urged police to focus instead on violent crime, child exploitation, and corruption rather than invading personal privacy.
