However, social media users think this should not be acceptable, regardless if the staff was rude to the customer or not. Additionally, wasting someone’s time for a petty revenge doesn’t seem as encouraging from social media users as some may think.

I think they both use humans to services their stores.
Just because you pay one human more over another, doesn't actually make them kinder, more honest or have exemplary customer service skills. It just makes them more incentivized to do so, no guarantee. Many are too entitled.
