Anwar Confirms Thailand and Cambodia Agree to Border Ceasefire

JITRA – Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced last night that Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to implement a ceasefire and withdraw their troops from the disputed border area. Anwar said both leaders responded positively during his phone calls on Thursday evening but requested time to pull back troops already stationed at the border. He noted that Malaysia’s stable and peaceful reputation enabled such diplomatic outreach. Tensions between Thailand and Cambodia escalated after clashes on Thursday near Preah Vihear, following months of rising hostility since May. The border dispute has strained ties for decades, with both nations accusing each other of provoking violence.
