SHANGHAI – Green Hills, a luxury gated estate in Pudong, Shanghai, is under fresh spotlight following renewed speculation that Malaysian fugitive Jho Low may be residing there. The high-security enclave, built in 2004 and spanning 410,000 sqm, is known for its Tudor-style bungalows and ultra-wealthy residents, including expats and prominent business figures.

The Straits Times recently attempted a visit, finding access strictly controlled by guards requiring visitors to provide a house number and surname. While residents noted the estate’s quiet and discreet nature, some admitted to hearing whispers of “famous businessmen” living within.
Monthly rentals at Green Hills can reach 100,000 yuan (S$12,500), with properties selling for up to 150 million yuan.
Meanwhile, Malaysian authorities remain sceptical of reports that Low is enjoying a lavish lifestyle in China. Australia has also voiced concern over the possible use of a forged passport linked to his movements. Green Hills is a villa compound located on Jinxiu East Road in the Pudong Biyun International Community in Shanghai.
