JOHOR BAHRU, July 26 — Johor PAS Muslimat chief Zakiah Tukirin criticised the Chief Secretary to the Government for warning civil servants against joining the “Turun Anwar” rally, calling it an attempt to suppress citizens’ constitutional right to peaceful assembly. She said civil servants, especially women, are not passive observers but hardworking individuals burdened by rising living costs. Zakiah questioned Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s shift in stance, recalling his past support for protests. She urged women, including public servants, to speak up against injustice, saying loyalty to the nation does not mean silence in the face of oppression.

“This blanket ban without any room for discretion is excessive. If they attend outside of working hours, do not carry departmental symbols, and do not disrupt official duties, then preventing them is a form of oppression,” she said.
