Economist Geoffrey Williams, speaking to a local news portal, urged the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) to reduce government interference in business, allowing the private sector to lead commercial activity. He stressed that the government should instead focus on core areas like public health, education, and social protection. Williams called for fewer regulations—limited to health, safety, anti-corruption, governance, and anti-trust issues. He proposed a Universal Basic Income and Pension to ensure sustainable living incomes. Emphasising income growth through fair work, he also pushed for free higher education and student loan reform. Williams warned against protectionism, urging 13MP to enhance market access and respond to global economic shifts.
