The Kuala Lumpur High Court has awarded RM1.1 million in damages to Christina Verstappen, the mother of Dutch model Ivana Smit, whose nude body was discovered on a condominium balcony in 2017.

She successfully sued the Inspector-General of Police, an investigating officer, the Home Minister, and the government for negligence and failure to properly investigate her daughter’s death.
The court ordered PDRM to reopen the investigation and remove the original officer from the case. Judge Roz Mawar highlighted critical failures in evidence preservation and suspect handling, stating these directly harmed the plaintiff and were clear breaches of statutory duty.
