PETALING JAYA: The United States has praised Malaysia for hosting successful ceasefire talks between Cambodia and Thailand, leading to an agreement to halt border hostilities. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio thanked Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for his leadership, calling the ceasefire a “vital first step” toward restoring peace. President Trump also expressed support for the process. The agreement, effective midnight July 29, includes immediate cessation of violence, a regional military commanders’ meeting, and a General Border Committee session on August 4 in Cambodia. Anwar announced the deal after trilateral talks in Kuala Lumpur, urging all parties to honour commitments.
