A powerful 8.7-magnitude earthquake struck off the eastern coast of Kamchatka, Russia, at 7:24 am Malaysian time, located 107 km southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy at a depth of 42 km. Despite the quake’s intensity, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) confirmed there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia.

However, several other countries, including Japan, the US, the Philippines, and Indonesia, issued tsunami warnings. The earthquake was also reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), which pinpointed its location 126 km east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Malaysians are advised to stay calm and follow updates from official sources.
