The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) surprised the Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) by announcing 16 “high-impact” programmes without prior consultation. According to internal sources, Mitra officers were not briefed and only learned of the announcement via media. The programmes, said to benefit the Indian community through education, culture, and social wellbeing, lacked details on funding or implementation. Some proposed initiatives were rejected due to overlaps with existing programmes under other ministries. Mitra insiders expressed confusion over the sudden rollout and the need for better coordination to avoid duplication and ensure resource efficiency.
