The government has been urged to let Employees Provident Fund (EPF) members choose between full savings withdrawal or a monthly pension after retirement, following proposals under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP). Former BN communications official Eric See-To said the move should remain optional to avoid burdening workers. “They should decide for themselves—whether to restructure for pensions or opt for full withdrawal,” he said. The 13MP outlines a mechanism splitting contributions into savings and pension components. See-To also urged flexibility on retirement age, warning that raising it could be a backdoor move to ease government pension liabilities and national debt financing.
