KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 3 — Over 80% of road accidents in Malaysia are caused by driver behaviour rather than road conditions, Works Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi revealed. Citing Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) data, he said only 12–13% of over 500,000 recorded accidents were linked to road or weather factors. Nanta highlighted the need for greater public awareness on safe driving, particularly avoiding distractions and obeying speed limits. He referred to the recent UPSI bus crash in Perak, which involved speeding at nearly double the limit. The minister urged a shift in driver attitudes alongside infrastructure improvements.
