Two Arrested in U.S. for Illegally Shipping Nvidia AI Chips to China

Two Chinese nationals, Chuan Geng and Shiwei Yang, were arrested in California for allegedly smuggling advanced Nvidia AI chips, including H100s, to China without required U.S. export licenses.

Their company, ALX Solutions, used transshipment points in Singapore and Malaysia to evade controls between 2022 and 2025. Investigators found over 20 illegal shipments and payments directly from Chinese entities. 

One shipment invoice alone exceeded US$28 million. The case highlights ongoing U.S. efforts to block AI chip transfers to China amid national security concerns. Geng was released on bond, while Yang, who overstayed her visa, faces a detention hearing on August 12.
