In a blog post in July, former Prime Minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad claimed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim may survive a no-confidence motion not because of genuine support, but due to fear among MPs. Mahathir alleged that several lawmakers back Anwar under pressure, fearing legal action or loss of constituency funds if they dissent. He suggested that this environment of intimidation, not loyalty or confidence, secures Anwar’s position. Mahathir also challenged Anwar to dissolve Parliament and hold fresh elections to prove his mandate, criticizing the legitimacy of his rise to power.
