The North-South Expressway (PLUS) will roll out an open toll payment system using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology in October, starting with the Hutan Kampung–Sungai Dua stretch in Penang.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said this pilot is the first step toward implementing the Multi-Lane Fast Flow (MLFF) system within two years to reduce congestion. ANPR allows cashless, barrier-free toll payments by scanning number plates.

Developed by local experts without government funding, the system will be tested at 13 toll plazas across 35 lanes. No registration fees apply, and users can pay via the JustGo app or linked payment methods.
