An air-conditioning technician, Kiew Mun Kiat, 43, was fined RM30,000 by the Ampang Sessions Court for brutally beating his pet dog, Lucky, a male German Shepherd, with a wooden stick and rubber hose.

The abuse, recorded by a neighbour on July 31 in Pandan Indah, went viral online. Kiew was charged under Section 29(1)(a) of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, which provides for fines or jail. The court warned that failure to pay would result in six months’ jail.
The dog, found with visible injuries, was seized and will be put up for adoption by the Selangor Veterinary Department.
