Over 6,000 Malaysians gave up their citizenship for Singapore in the first half of 2025, according to Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution. Last year recorded 16,930 renunciations, the highest in a decade, surpassing the previous peak of 13,362 in 2019. Numbers had dipped to 5,591 in 2020 during the pandemic but have since rebounded sharply. From 2015 to 2018, annual cases ranged between 7,394 and 8,654.
