Former Selangor menteri besar Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo says Umno can no longer be a dominant political force as it “sits under the prime minister’s armpit.” Speaking to a local news portal, Khir argued a dominant party must contest all seats, not rely on allies.
“But if they keep hiding under the prime minister’s armpit, how can they (Umno) be dominant?”
He claimed Umno now plays only a supplementary role in government, especially to Pakatan Harapan, and pointed to its reduced share of seats in recent elections, such as contesting only 12 in Selangor. Khir said Bersatu has the ambition to be dominant, which motivated his move, confirmed by Bersatu Melaka chief Rahim Tamby Chik.
