A coalition of 26 pro-Palestine NGOs, including BDS and Mercy Malaysia, has backed PKR International Bureau’s call to end Maybank’s RM1 billion partnership with Microsoft. Citing a UN report naming Microsoft among firms profiting from the genocide in Gaza, the NGOs urged the government to intervene, noting Maybank’s status as a government-linked company. The PKR bureau, supported by former minister Maszlee Malik, argued the deal is unethical and damages Maybank’s reputation, alleging Microsoft supplies technology to Israel for military and surveillance use. The five-year agreement includes adopting Microsoft Azure for strategic systems and exploring cloud and AI innovation initiatives.
