The government has amended the Penal Code to strengthen laws against bullying, harassment, defamation, and identity misuse, including online offences.

Malaysia Criminalises All Forms of Bullying Under New Penal Code Amendments

Under the Penal Code (Amendment) Act 2025 [Act A1750], which took effect after Royal Assent on 25 February and gazettement on 7 March, new Sections 507B to 507G criminalise all forms of bullying.

Offences linked to harassment, threats, and acts leading to suicide attempts or deaths carry penalties of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, fines, or both. Minister Azalina Othman Said urged citizens to understand and comply with the law, offering free legal advice through government channels to promote a safer society.
