KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 — Calls for MCA and MIC to quit Barisan Nasional (BN) are merely to appease party grassroots, said political analyst Prof James Chin of Tasmania University. He argued both parties cannot survive outside BN and likened their current role to “DAP 2.0,” acting as government watchdogs. Despite resolutions from some state chapters to break away, Chin said neither MCA nor MIC could regain strength without more parliamentary seats, which BN is unlikely to offer. With Umno holding only 26 seats, similar to GPS’s 23, Chin added it was unrealistic for Umno to concede seats to its BN partners.
