The Works Ministry has made the Gerik–Jeli stretch of the East-West Highway a top priority in the 2026 Budget due to urgent safety needs.

Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said upgrades, including 385 solar-powered streetlights in high-risk zones, are part of regular funding under the JRTB. Damaged guardrails, signboards, and road markings are also being repaired.
The Sultan of Perak recently inaugurated the Sultan Muzzaffar Shah Bridge, attended by state leaders. Perak is the first state to trial the MYJalan app, enabling the public to report road issues. Data from the app has already secured federal funding for repairs.
