The Plantation and Commodities Ministry (KPK) has recommended approving applications from 434 companies to hire foreign workers, covering over 34,000 quotas as of July 9. Deputy Minister Datuk Chan Foong Hin said the approvals aim to address labour shortages and boost productivity in sectors such as oil palm and rubber.

He explained that quotas are granted on a case-by-case basis to meet specific industry needs. Responding to Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham (PH–Beruas), Chan cited Immigration Department data showing 258,153 active Temporary Employment Visit Pass holders in plantations as of June 30. The industry still needs 30,000–40,000 more workers due to expired permits and returnees.
