KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) affirmed that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim cannot be disqualified as PM or Tambun MP, citing his 2018 full royal pardon. This follows a lawsuit by Hindraf chairman P. Waytha Moorthy seeking to nullify Anwar’s election and appointment. The AGC said the pardon rendered Anwar as someone who had “never committed any offences,” removing any disqualification under Article 48. It also noted that election challenges must be filed via an election petition within the legal timeframe. The AGC has issued similar clarifications on Anwar’s pardon in the past.
