KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 15 — Academic Tajuddin Rasdi condemned Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh’s protest outside a Penang hardware store, calling it racial provocation disguised as patriotism. The professor accused Umno Youth and Bersatu Youth participants of selectively targeting a non-Malay-owned business over an inverted national flag incident, while ignoring similar mistakes elsewhere. He labelled the demonstrators “hooligans” seeking political gain rather than justice, noting the store owner had already apologised for the unintentional error. Tajuddin lamented the “near death of Merdeka,” criticising race-based parties for pitting communities against each other under the guise of defending the flag.
